Ascent's CAT Summer Crash Course

Starts May 18, 2006

Ascent's CAT Crash course is a two-month long intensive CAT training classroom program. This short term CAT crash course is designed to assist students who have time only during their summer vacation to have a jump start with their CAT preparation. The crash course is presently conducted only in Chennai.

Who should opt for Ascent's short term CAT crash course?

  • Students from BITS, Pilani who will be spending their summer vacation in Chennai and getting back to campus after summer holidays.
  • Students from IITs, NITs and other engineering colleges who are either spending their summer holidays in Chennai or are doing their summer internship at Chennai.
  • CAT aspirants who have had near misses (with over 90 percentile in the previous CAT) who want a short term CAT course that serves as an intensive CAT training.
  • CAT aspirants who have other committments after July and have no time to attend classes after July.
The CAT crash course will equip you to be better prepared for facing the exacting testing standards of the best B-Schools in India, the IIMs. Our CAT training program is highly effective and has resulted in as many as 15% of our students joining premier institutes such as IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore, IIM Calcutta, IIM Lucknow and ISB each year.

CAT Training Methodology - From the basics
The curriculum of our CAT coaching class starts right from the basics, be it Math (Quant) or English (Verbal). The level of competency expected in CAT is proficiency in 10th standard curriculum Math and first year graduation English. Though CAT tests your competency in basic Math and English, the proficiency expected is very high. Hence, our CAT preparation starts right from the basics to ensure that your fundamentals are really strong. You can build speed and accuracy after strengthening your fundamentals.

Quant / DI - The 1, 2, 3s...
Those of us from the so called "non quant" (Arts, Commerce) background may not have done any academic Math during the last five years. Ascent's CAT course starts right from "Number Systems" and guides you through all the relevant topics.

For those of us who have a "quant" background (engineers, for instance) this CAT course will help us unlearn unhealthy habits like punching a calculator for computing the product of 32 and 38.

Our CAT training course will acquaint you with a number of math shortcuts to solve problems in the shortest possible time.

Verbal / Comprehension - The A, B, Cs...
Familiarity breeds complacence. Most of us think we are comfortable with the English language. We speak, read and write in English. However, seldom have we adhered to the rules of English grammar, thanks to our daily "lingo." Our English classroom refreshes these basic rules and teaches techniques to answer CAT type Verbal and Comprehension questions.

Tests, tests &, tests....
Clearing the CAT test is not about knowing everything. In fact, hardly anyone attempts all of the 90 odd questions during the two hours. The key difference between those who clear CAT and those who do not lies in not how much one knows, but in being able to identify the right kind of questions and to solve them as quickly as possible.

This CAT crash course includes Speed Tests and Proficiency Tests that are designed to help you master these techniques across the four areas, viz., Mathematics (Quantitative Reasoning), Verbal, Reading Comprehension and Logical and Analytical Reasoning.

The CAT training course will provide you with 20 Full length CAT Comprehensive Tests and 10 Mock CATs. Four of the 30 Full Length Tests will be administered on alternate Sundays during the tenure of the course. The remaining tests should be taken at your pace between August and November. In-depth analysis of the four Mock CAT tests will follow each test. Individual counseling and group counseling on test taking strategies will be held to assist you achieve your goal.

CAT Study Material
Ascent's CAT Study material covering all the areas being tested in the Common Admission Test will be provided. The study material has been prepared by the core faculty comprising graduates from the IIMs. The study material has been developed based on recent patterns of CAT.
